Linux: much more power on much less computer. more friendly toward sharing the machine with other purposes (email server, news server, ftp server, chat server, etc). more secure. more stable

Windows: more menu driven. easier for multiple people to administrate. more familiar for users if you give user accounts on the system

Other Replys:The problem I have with Windows hosting is that it is a Microsoft Family of stuff, all in a box, and that is all there is. If you want server side support, it will be ASP, for example. No PHP. The Linux servers usually have a bunch of open source support associated with them so there are more options. Like PHP, MySQL, Joomla, etc. So, I go with Linux, simply to have the freedom of choice. And no PHP is really dark ages.

There are no pros and cons really, both are different and both are very alike, what really matters is what you need! Most people only choose Windows Hosting if they want support for ASP.Net and MSSQL, are you going to be making sites with those or using scripts that use those?

Most people choose linux as its cheaper to run and more people use PHP/mySQL, although windows hosting can run those too. If you don%26#039;t need asp.net or mssql, I highly recommend choosing linux hosting. There is no point in spending more on windows hosting if you don%26#039;t need it.
