How much to budget for web hosting?

I%26#039;m starting a web site that will include research %26amp; commentary on a particular industry, as well as a forum and links to news items of interest. Right now I have a $6.95 hosting plan that includes 350GB storage and 3500 GB/month bandwidth. I have no idea how much traffic this site will get and whether my current plan will be adequate. If I have Google ads on the site, will I always be able to cover my hosting expenses? Are there web hosts that allow you to scale up to a higher plan or a dedicated server, rather than charging for excess traffic? Out of curiosity, how much do you think ultra-popular sites like drudgereport.com or perezhilton.com spend on hosting?

I%26#039;d love to see these oversellers actually get 2TB of traffic per month per customer they sell these insane plans to. Besides would you rather be treated like a number or a person? You get what you pay for.

As for dedicated server, if your a newbie I suggest you get a managed dedicated server or virtual private server where the datacenter can be reached for all your tech questions. They take care of the technical side and you just run the content side of it. There%26#039;s a LOT of perks to having your own server, you can even sell of the webspace your not using to cover costs of the server.

Other Replys:3500GB of traffics for 6.95 ?

If you value your website, I would advice looking elsewhere, traffics/bandwidth cost money to run, no one can offer that much bandwidth/reliability for that price if they are a good company.

Other Replys:i believe you have just started it up and probably you wont%26#039; get much visitors for months and months before it start to increase. so why pay so much on hosting with too much storage and bandwidth. don%26#039;t you know you can upgrade later or transfer your site to a larger hosting when the needs arise.

Other Replys:I highly recommend dreamhost http://dreamhost.pinologic.com
