I'm drowning in a sea of Web hosting choices!!! please help!?

I%26#039;ve been looking for a web host for the first time and I%26#039;ve spent weeks sorting through the staggering amount of information from dozens of different web host ranking websites, etc. I%26#039;d love feedback from the unbiased users on Y! answers

-need a good basic web host

-would like to ultimately host 3 websites on one account

-expect the websites to be small, simple (2 are for a small start up biz and one personal)

-primarily use a Mac, although I have access to PC

-like the shared hosting plan prices but don%26#039;t know who to choose

-need the domain name(s) too

I%26#039;m finding that the user reviews are all over the place - like one website will have 100% glowing positive reviews of Lunarpages and then the next one will tell you it%26#039;s a nightmare; then you get the same thing for Hostgator, and now I don%26#039;t know who to believe about any of the dozens of choices I%26#039;ve looked at.

I%26#039;m drowning in a sea of Web hosting choices!!! please help!?

i know there are so many choices. the web hosting market is so competitive. therefore you need to expect what kind of fighting going on for getting customer. don%26#039;t worry about them but what you should really concern is how many domain you need for a short term maybe like for a year or two. about domain name some web hosting offer free domain for a year and even there are company offering free domain name for life and usually if you only continue to host with them. for web space one page of website average around 15-30 Kbs. so if you making a small biz website with 100 page then it needs 1.5 - 3 Mb of spaces. but if content has a lot of images then it would be more. so you figure out that first. a lot of big web hosting company are offering a lot of web space like 200-300G or 20000 - 30000 Mb but only allow one website to occupy that space. that plan is not for beginners but for biz already thriving and big. I suggest you find a hosting plan somewhere around USD3 - USD5 with web space around 500MB to 5 G with bandwidth somewhere around 50G - 200G and allowed 3-5 hosted domain(pay special attention on this when looking at the hosting plan - ask them if you can find that at their website) or multiple sites. it is enough for a startup biz. hope it helps.

check my profile if you need more info related to online biz.

Other Replys:Your experience is very common and the reason for it come down to dishonest reviews. many are biased because they operate affiliate programs, and are paid up to and over 100usd, to say that this or that host is the best. This happens even when the host has little or no backup service. i have been in your situation as a developer and know how frustrating it is to look for a good web host and also have been in the past stuck with useless web hosting companies that offered lots and were happy to take my money but then provided no real service to me.

I do run a web hosting review website but for my own integrity I look around and read what everyone over all has to say and then evaluate it all before I review a host. if clients say they are hopeless I point this out to my website visitors rather than just saying they are great.

Personally i use hostgator and also site 5 and have found both to be very good with my preference so far being towards hostgator. You can host multiple sites and also do pretty much anything you wish to do either from a huge range of pre-installed scripts or by doing your own custom install. When i have needed technical assistance its always been given either on the spot though live chat or via email within the hour. I hope this helps you in your search for the perfect host and good luck with your online venture.

Other Replys:I just got myself a year of free web hosting, with 1 of the top few hosting companies. My friend introduce this site to me, so I thought of sharing with you . If you are really keen on getting a hosting plan with domain, this is really a good chance.

But you have to pay for the plan upfront, then later they will give back to us 1 year hosting fee. Is really geniune, my friend have been using for more than 3 months already, and already got her signup fee back.

Check out this site if you are really looking for a hosting plan, then there is really nothing to lose. You can start to create your very own webpage, I am setting up a page for my baby.

Have Fun!

Other Replys:I think most of the points you need to consider have been posted by a couple of respondents, one of the most important being that a lot of people will simply try to sell you on a hosting company simply because they are affiliates and want a commission - nothing wrong with that, I am an affiliate marketer myself - the trouble is, a huge number of them are not upfront about it and certainly don%26#039;t have your interests at heart. Nobody can read your unique requirements from your question, and they don%26#039;t know anything about your budget, how much traffic you are expecting, etc.etc.

I think from what you have told us here, that a shared hosting plan would be fine for you and I think if you go with one of the big names already mentioned here you should be fine.

The more customers a company has, the more detractors you are likely to find - that%26#039;s the good old law of averages. You will always be able to find some whiners if you look at any hosting company closely enough - all you have to decide is whether they are representative as a whole.

It sounds as though you%26#039;ve done your research so I%26#039;ll just add a couple of things. It is knowing what YOU require that is important - don%26#039;t be blinded by huge numbers or outlandish claims of %26quot;unlimited everything%26quot;. Make sure that technical support is efficient (if you are new to hosting this will be vital) and try to choose a host that provides C-Panel which is a user friendly interface even for beginners.

If you%26#039;re not sure about whether you are going to need databases, nor how many etc. these are the things you want to understand before buying. As I said earlier, everyone%26#039;s needs are unique and you need to be wary of the %26quot;salesmen%26quot; as opposed to the respondents who%26#039;ll give you honest and unbiased feedback.

As for domains, you do not have to buy them from the hosting company and many people will tell you it%26#039;s not a good idea to do so. I%26#039;ve never had a problem but I%26#039;ve got a great host and never needed to move so it%26#039;s never been an issue. There are several domain registrars and a lot of people use Godaddy or Namecheap but I have no experience of either.

Good luck in your search, and just because you read one %26quot;horror story%26quot; about a particular firm doesn%26#039;t always mean they are to be avoided like the plague. Just as many problems encountered with hosting companies are caused by the customer as by the host in my experience!

Other Replys:If you like to create websites (usually you will end up more than 1 website, I got more than 100 websites in about 6 months%26#039; time), go for multiple web hosting services where you could host all your websites in one account.

I would like to suggest following webhosting which I use, they are excellent.

Hostmonster http://www.hostmonster.com/track/ryukend...

By using Fantastico, you could create own forum, photo gallery, shopping cart (e-commerce),your own auction site and your own blogs within few seconds. They also offer %26quot;Free Website Builder%26quot; as well.
