What is WEB HOSTING? Do I need it? Please read the details?

I am fairly new to web design.. I%26#039;ve just finish designing my first site..and I%26#039;m in the process of buying a domain. Of course it ask me if I want web hosting....and I%26#039;m not sure. I mean i have an idea of what it is..but again i need more details.

I%26#039;ve created a basic family website..for my family. We don%26#039;t need e-mail address or anything, and the only things to update will be a photo gallery and message board..which I will do by myself.

Now I am not sure how much space the average web domain will give me from go daddy...so as far as uploading pics..i%26#039;m not sure if that%26#039;d force me to have to get it..

Could you help me?? PLease explain

What is WEB HOSTING? Do I need it? Please read the details?

Webhosting is simply storage space and bandwidth for access to that space. Think of it as a computer that is always on and connected to the Internet, because that is exactly what it is. Your files -text files, photos, videos, etc.- are stored on the hard drive, and family members or whomever you give access to, can access those files via the url (your domain name).

Go Daddy has free basic hosting with domain name purchases, and that should be sufficient for a family webpage.

Web hosting is the place on the internet your website will reside. Yahoo 360 is a host and it%26#039;s free. But since you want to have your own domain you will need a host or your own web server.

I would check out p4host.com they have very reasonable rates. You will need to decide if you want a Microsoft host plan or a Linux host plan. Linux is usually much cheaper because the host OS is free.

Other Replys:You could probably use a free host like freewebs.com to keep your files, as long as you have under 50, but I%26#039;m not sure how good that%26#039;d be for domain redirection.

Other Replys:Web hosting is a service provided by companies that puts your web page on the public internet. Its associated with a static IP address and a DNS entry that points to it. Example:

Your server IP may be 24.23.128.200

Your DNS may be www.mydomain.com

When someone wants to visit your page, the put in www.mydomain.com in their browser and DNS translates it to 24.23.128.200 so the computers can find it.

The web hosting company (I use luxsci.com) manages:

1. your web server

2. your DNS entry

3. your email server

4. your ftp server

There may be other services as well, such as business services or encryption. Check with the hosting company.

You%26#039;ll get email addresses as part of the package. I recommend you use them. I haven%26#039;t used my web mail or ISP email accounts in years. I never have to tell people my email has changed.

So - the upshot is this. If you want to have a web page that accessable from the internet, you need to have it %26quot;hosted%26quot; or manage the servers and public DNS yourself.

Other Replys:You can easily estimate the size of the folder containing your website. Just right click on the folder and click properties.

You need not purchase web-hosting if you do not require features like Server Side Scripts, Databases or email.

You can get free hosting from www.100mb.com

You can also buy hosting at just $1/mo from 3ivx.

Other Replys:a webhost is a company that offers you space on the internet. A domain name, only offers a unique name which is linked to your actual location on the web.

So yes, you do need a webhost. Think of it like this, you DO need a car in order to be able to buy a registration plate.

This host, doesn%26#039;t necessarily has to be a payed one, but it is advisable to have one such host. You get larger storage space, easier access to your files, possibility to use server side scripting (eg PHP, ASP, Perl)...

Free hosts are OK, but they force you to put up ads, which are links to their sites. Plus, you are limited in what you can/can%26#039;t do to your site.

Also, storage is either small, or the number of files you can upload is limited.

There are people who have bought more space, and they offer free hosting, letting you redirect your domain name to the address they provide.

Other Replys:I highly recommend GoDaddy.com, you can purchase your domain and hosting from them. Hosting can be month to month or annually. It%26#039;s easy, simple, and tech support is OUTSTANDING if you need it.

I currently run 19 sites hosted by GoDaddy with no issues and 100% uptime.

Other Replys:There r two options for u, either u can use free hosting services like yahoo n google to upload ur site

http://geocities.yahoo.com/home/

http://googlepages.com

Here u can add ur required website about ur family, and all the details that u require.

second option is to buy a domain name and hosting to host ur site, u r using go daddy, they offer a nice price for hosting check out. if u want to check out the actual requirement for yourself then check out the folder where u have all the files which need to be uploaded. this will be the size of ur present requirement.

Other Replys:Hello you can check out this review site for hosting companies

http://hostingproviders.wordpress.com/

Other Replys:If you currently are a web subscriber, your current provider offers a homepage into which you can FTP your current webpage(s) [which can be authored/designed using NotePad, MSN Word, FrontPage, DreamWeaver, etc.] and use the homepage hosting services. In a sense, you are hosting a commercial webpage via the homepage link and incurring merely the monthly access of, say, AOL.com, etc. Nevertheless, should you want to link your current domain name to the homepage URL, you%26#039;ll need to use a third-party redirection service, i.e., mydomain.com [which is free] or simply direct your domain name registry, i.e., godaddy.com to forward your domain name [with masking] to the link it to your homepage URL. It%26#039;s that simple.

Good luck!

Other Replys:A web hosting is a company that provide you a server to save your web page. You will need to put you pages into the server vai a FTP program. There is free one around, so you do not need to buy it.

Normally, I don%26#039;t suggest people to host with Godaddy.

If you are looking for budget hosting (bellow $10), you can read the review from:

http://www.marketingtreasurehunt.com/blo...

For your case, in term of disk space required, you can find it our from all your images and html files.

As for message board, are you trying to run any script for that? Then you need to get a the correct plan that can run your message board. You can find good free script as well. Typical they run with php, which will run in a linux box.

Frankly, I don%26#039;t think you will hit a disk space limit for a family sites, unless you are tell me that you are load tons of images, videos into it.

In most plans that cost bellow $10 a month, it is more than enough for your usage.

Most hosting plan come with email, be it you want or not :)

Enjoy building your site.

If you do not wish to pay, you might one to Google for free hosting. I can%26#039;t suggest much on free hosting as I don%26#039;t recommend and use them.

Other Replys:There are many good webhosting sites.

Visit

there you will find best web hosting providers compared with their webspace and bandwidth as well as their prices.
