What is the difference between Linux and MS? I%26#039;ve seen this on a few sites that I%26#039;ve been to. Keep in mind, I know nothing about building websites and web hosting. Thanks.
What does Web Hosting mean?
web hostingis where you place your files so they can be seen from the net. they can host your web files or regular files.
as for which is better Linux or Windows, it depends on your style. if you are going to do a dynamic based website and want to use some of the existing programs out there, and are going the open source route, then LINUX would be the best way. If you are going the .NET method, then a windows based host should do it. ultimately it doesn%26#039;t really matter what you choose if you are just going to be puttting a simple HTML web site, any of the above should be able for you to do.
What does Web Hosting mean?
A web hosting service is a type of Internet hosting service that provides individuals, organizations and users with online systems for storing information, images, video, or any content accessible via the Web. Web hosts are companies that provide space on a server they own for use by their clients as well as providing Internet connectivity, typically in a data center. Web hosts can also provide data center space and connectivity to the Internet for servers they do not own to be located in their data center.
Other Replys:web hosting is a service provided by many companies in which they will %26quot;host%26quot; your web pages on their server, so that you don%26#039;t need to set up a web server...
Linux and Microsoft Windows are just different operating systems, which provide different features..
Other Replys:Web Hosting is keeping your Web Site%26#039;s files on a machine that%26#039;s available 24/7. MS and Linux are the types of server operating systems where your files will be stored. One major difference is that in Linux, filenames are case sensitive. Another is that there will be different type of coding you could do for your pages as far as programming interactive scripts, but not for designing purposes. Compare prices and features and know beforehand what you will need as far as programming before you choose. Web pages and regular image files do NOT matter in what kind of server it is, only programming and dtabases.

Linux/ M$ - only difference is what is available for programming plugins.
If you are newbie start with free hosting like yahoo geocities.
Other Replys:Linux is a unix-like operating system that where most operations are handled by typing commands into the keyboard. MS is Microsoft Windows (usually Server 2003) where most operations are done using a mouse and a windowed interface.
The type of server operating system you pick largely depends on what type of website you want to build. Keep in mind there is A LOT of free (open source) software available for Linux, so if you%26#039;re on the cheaep, this is the way to go.
Other Replys:Servers to locate your page or your web site, by registration or Free either, but if you registered you will have more features
Other Replys:Linux and Windows are two different operating systems, just like Apple is a different OS too (Unix). To a typical user, the difference in how the desktop looks. MS Windows has a start menu on the bottom of the screen, Apple has it at the top, Icons or command prompts look different, etc.
Web Hosting is when a server %26quot;hosts%26quot; a web site. In order for people to see a web page, a computer needs to be set aside 24/7 just %26quot;hosting%26quot; this web site and allowing people to visit it. You wouldn%26#039;t want to use a personal computer because that would slow down your normal operations. A server%26#039;s hardware isn%26#039;t that different from a normal computer, however, most servers run a Linux OS, because they are faster and just designed better to host web sites. Hope this helps
Other Replys:Web hosting is where everyone needs to start, well domains too :P , if you want to make anything publicly available on the internet. You can get a free account or a paid account to %26quot;host%26quot; you files. Most hosts have free tools that allow you to create a website very easily without knowing code. The differeance between MS and Linux is really for the more technical user. I would look based on prices and support.
